Navy hopes to duplicate last season’s 11-2 record in 2020. It will be much more difficult for the Midshipmen to do this in 2020 with games against Notre Dame and Memphis along with road contests at Air Force and SMU. Navy welcomes back six starters on offense including a pair of running backs in senior CJ Williams and junior Jamale Carothers. Sophomore Perry Olsen takes over at Quarterback and will have two experienced Wide Receivers to throw to in senior Ryan Mitchell and junior Mychal Cooper. The Offensive Line only returns two starters and may need a few weeks to jell. The Defense will be Navy’s strength this season with six starters returning including three starters in the Secondary. The Secondary will be led by a pair of Safeties in Kevin Brennan and Evan Fochtman. Junior Linebacker Diego Fagot is the lone returning starter in the Linebacking Corps while the Midshipmen return senior Defensive Tackle Jackson Perkins and junior Defensive End J’airus Warren. Navy’s Special Teams Unit will be solid as sophomore Kicker Bijan Nichols returns. Unfortunately Nichols may have to fill the role of Punter as well if junior Punter Ben Fee can’t get the job done. Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo knows losing Spring practice may loom large this season for the Midshipmen. Navy will take a step back after last season’s 11-2 campaign but the Mids will still win enough games to become bowl eligible. I predict Navy to go 8-5 in 2020.
