Kansas Head Coach Les Miles enters his 2nd season with modest expectations even though the Jayhawks finished 3-9 in 2019. Kansas returns six starters including two starters on the Offensive Line. There will be a Quarterback competition between junior Miles Kendrick and senior Thomas MacVittie that may linger until the season opener. The Jayhawks new Quarterback will have several talented options to work with including senior Tight End Jack Luavasa. The Wide Receiving Unit is deep and talented with two starters returning in seniors Stephon Robinson, Jr. and Andrew Parchment. Junior Running Back Pooka Williams, Jr. returns as well and will be relied on to carry the Jayhawks Offense on a weekly basis in 2020. Kansas only returns three starters on Defense including one starter on the Defensive Line in junior Defensive End Caleb Sampson. The Linebacking Unit returns two starters in senior Outside Linebacker Kyron Johnson and sophomore Middle Linebacker Gavin Potter. The Secondary doesn’t return any starters but watch out for senior Cornerbacks Elijah Jones and Kyle Mayberry to cause havoc for Big 12 Offenses this Fall. The Special Teams Unit is experienced with both senior Kicker Liam Jones and senior Punter Kyle Thompson returning. Kansas should be able to take care of business in all three of their NonConference games but will have a tough time defeating any of their nine Big 12 opponents. The Jayhawks best bet is to steal one Big 12 contest so they could finish at 4-8 which would be a small improvement from their 3-9 finish in 2019. I predict they do just that and finish 4-8 in 2020.
